Department of Sociology

The Department of Sociology at Madhavrao Patil Arts, Commerce and Science College was established in June 1993. The Department offers an undergraduate course in Sociology for B.A. students.

The faculty members of the Department actively engage students in teaching, seminars, surveys, educational tours, and other academic activities. The Department is committed to encouraging students to participate in competitive examinations such as NET, SET, MSW Entrance Examination, and MPSC. Through these efforts, several students have successfully qualified for these examinations in recent years. Some former students have also been placed in NGOs, social welfare departments, and educational institutions as Assistant Professors and teachers.

Interdisciplinary Activities and Academic Contributions

The Department of Sociology is involved in interdisciplinary courses that include studies related to Economics and Political Science.

The Department has two Assistant Professors. Dr. Nanasaheb B. Patil, Head of the Department, has served as a Board Member in Sociology at SRTM University, Nanded, and is currently a Board Member in Sociology at the University. He is also a Life Member of the All India Sociological Society, Delhi, a member of the State Working Committee of Maharashtra Samajshastra Council, and a Research Guide at SRTM University, Nanded.

Dr. Sukhdev G. Chavan, Research Guide at SRTM University, Nanded, has served as a Board Member in Sociology at SRTM University and is currently a Board Member in Sociology at the University. He is also a Life Member of the Marathi Samajshastra Council.

Social Awareness and Research Activities

Along with teaching, the Department undertakes surveys and studies of various social problems within the college premises to create social awareness among students.

The faculty members of the Department actively participate in State, National, and International-level conferences and present research papers on various topics related to Sociology.

The Department also organizes various programmes to promote social awareness and inspire students, including:

• Chhatrapati Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj Jayanti

Through these academic, research, and social-awareness activities, the Department of Sociology strives to develop students’ understanding of society and encourage their active participation in addressing social issues.
